Socialization
Now is the time to introduce your puppy to as many new sights, sounds, people, other dogs and situations as possible. Remember: a well-socialized puppy is more likely to grow up into a confident, calm adult dog. This is the most important process in a puppy's life. Don't delay!
The basics of house training are simple – never let your puppy go in the wrong place! Praise and reward each and every time it goes in the right place. Learn to predict when your puppy will need to go: after sleeping, playing, eating, excitement, when it starts to move in circles and sniff the floor, and when it hasn't been outside for a while. If your pup doesn't go, take it back inside and SUPERVISE carefully before trying again. Make sure your puppy learns by trial and success!
Puppy Biting
Puppy biting teaches a pup just how hard it can bite other living things. It is vital that all puppies learn to moderate how hard they bite before they loose their puppy teeth. This is called ‘bite inhibition.'
What to do:
Every time your puppy mouths your hands or clothes, yelp loudly, “Ouch!” Immediately turn away and ignore your pup for about 20 seconds. Repeat the “Ouch” and turn away each time you feel its teeth. If your pup keeps biting, take the fun out of it. Isolate your puppy from the family for about 2 minutes.
Jumping up
Start training your family and friends right away! Every time your puppy jumps up, turn your back and fold your arms. Do not talk to, touch or look at your puppy until it has all four feet on the floor or chooses to sit. Then you can greet your pup and give it a treat or praise. Be consistent!
